Ingredients
Scale
Brownie Batter
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- â…“ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon instant coffee or espresso powder
Mocha Swirl
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon brewed coffee
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8×8-inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper or lightly greasing it to prevent sticking.
- Make the brownie batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until fully combined. Stir in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and instant coffee or espresso powder until you form a thick, rich brownie batter.
- Prepare the mocha swirl: In a separate small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, brewed coffee, and flour. Mix these ingredients together until you achieve a smooth, creamy mocha swirl mixture.
- Combine and swirl: Pour the prepared brownie batter evenly into the baking pan. Drop spoonfuls of the mocha swirl mixture on top of the batter. Use a knife to gently swirl the mocha mixture into the brownie batter, creating a marbled effect.
- Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Test doneness by inserting a toothpick near the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs but no wet batter.
- Cool and serve: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into 9 squares for serving.
Notes
- For extra texture, add chocolate chips or chopped nuts to the brownie batter before baking.
- Chill the brownies before slicing to achieve cleaner, neater edges.
