Ingredients
Scale
Peach Filling
- 8 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced (about 6–7 medium peaches)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
Batter Topping
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Butter a 9×13 inch baking dish or a similar oven-safe dish to prepare it for baking.
- Prepare Peaches: In a large bowl, toss the peeled and sliced peaches with granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and optional cornstarch. Let the mixture sit for 10-15 minutes to allow the peaches to release their juices and for the flavors to meld.
- Make Batter: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar for the topping. Slowly pour in the milk and melted butter while mixing until the batter is smooth and well combined.
- Assemble Cobbler: Pour the peach mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish, spreading the juices as evenly as possible. Spoon or dollop the batter over the peaches; it does not need to cover the peaches entirely because the batter will spread as it bakes.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the batter comes out clean. The peach juices should be bubbling around the edges, indicating the filling is cooked through.
- Cool and Serve: Let the cobbler cool slightly before serving. It is delicious served warm and pairs perfectly with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra indulgence.
Notes
- For even better flavor, use ripe, in-season peaches.
- Cornstarch is optional but helps thicken the peach juices for a less runny cobbler.
- Butter the baking dish thoroughly to prevent sticking.
- This recipe serves 8 and is best enjoyed fresh but can be refrigerated and reheated.
- Pairs wonderfully with vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream.
