Description

This One-Pot Garlicky Shrimp & Broccoli recipe is a quick, flavorful, and healthy meal perfect for busy weeknights. Tender shrimp are sautéed and combined with vibrant broccoli florets cooked in a garlicky butter sauce with a hint of lemon zest and juice. It’s a delightful balance of savory, zesty, and mildly spicy flavors, all cooked in one skillet for easy cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

Vegetables and Seasonings

  • 1 head of broccoli, cut into florets
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Liquids and Garnish

  • 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon fresh Parmesan cheese (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the shrimp: In a large skillet or sauté pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the shrimp in a single layer and cook for 2–3 minutes on each side until pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Sauté garlic: In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Cook broccoli: Add the broccoli florets to the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften.
  4. Simmer broccoli: Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and bring to a simmer. Cover and cook for an additional 4–5 minutes until the broccoli is tender but still vibrant green.
  5. Combine shrimp and season: Return the shrimp to the skillet and toss them with the broccoli. Stir in lemon zest, lemon juice, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 2–3 minutes until everything is heated through.
  6. Garnish and serve: Garnish with fresh parsley and Parmesan cheese (if using) before serving.

Notes

  • Use peeled and deveined shrimp for convenience and easy eating.
  • If you prefer spicier dishes, increase the red pepper flakes gradually.
  • Substitute chicken broth with vegetable broth for a vegetarian-friendly option (except shrimp inclusion).
  • Parmesan cheese is optional; omit for a dairy-free meal.
  • Serve with crusty bread or over rice for a complete meal.
