Ingredients
Scale
Butternut Squash
- 1 large butternut squash (about 3 pounds), peeled, seeded, and cut into 1-inch cubes
Seasonings
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Optional
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and promote even cooking.
- Toss Squash with Seasonings: Place the cubed butternut squash in a large bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and dried thyme. Toss thoroughly until all pieces are evenly coated with the seasonings and oil.
- Arrange and Roast: Spread the seasoned squash cubes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they are not overcrowded to allow for proper roasting and caramelization. Roast in the oven for 25 to 35 minutes.
- Stir Halfway Through: At about the halfway mark (around 12-15 minutes), stir or flip the squash cubes to ensure even roasting on all sides and to develop a uniformly caramelized exterior.
- Add Maple Syrup for Glaze (Optional): If using maple syrup, drizzle it over the squash during the last 5 minutes of roasting. Return the baking sheet to the oven to allow the syrup to lightly glaze the squash cubes.
- Serve Warm: Remove the roasted butternut squash from the oven once tender and caramelized around the edges. Serve immediately while warm as a delicious side dish.
Notes
- For an extra layer of flavor, sprinkle a pinch of smoked paprika or cinnamon along with the other seasonings before roasting.
- Finish the dish with freshly grated Parmesan cheese or garnish with chopped fresh herbs such as parsley or sage for added freshness.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days, and reheat gently before serving.
