Ingredients

For the shrimp:

  • 2 pounds large shell-on shrimp (1620 count)
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 lemon (halved)
  • 2 tablespoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 2 garlic cloves (crushed)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Ice (for chilling)

For the cocktail sauce:

  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish (or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, bring water to a boil with lemon, Old Bay seasoning, garlic, bay leaf, and salt. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Add shrimp and boil for 2–3 minutes until pink. Drain and transfer to ice water to chill.
  3. In a small bowl, mix ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce (if using).
  4. Drain shrimp and serve chilled with cocktail sauce.

Notes

  • You can leave the tails on for presentation.
