For the shrimp:
- 2 pounds large shell-on shrimp (16–20 count)
- 4 cups water
- 1 lemon (halved)
- 2 tablespoons Old Bay seasoning
- 2 garlic cloves (crushed)
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Ice (for chilling)
For the cocktail sauce:
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish (or to taste)
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
Instructions
- In a large pot, bring water to a boil with lemon, Old Bay seasoning, garlic, bay leaf, and salt. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add shrimp and boil for 2–3 minutes until pink. Drain and transfer to ice water to chill.
- In a small bowl, mix ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce (if using).
- Drain shrimp and serve chilled with cocktail sauce.
Notes
- You can leave the tails on for presentation.
