French Bread:
- 1 large French bread loaf (cut in half lengthwise)
Cheesesteak Filling:
- 1 lb ribeye steak or sirloin (thinly sliced)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 green bell pepper (sliced)
- 1 small yellow onion (sliced)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Cheese Topping:
- 1 1/2 cups shredded provolone cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 tablespoon butter (melted)
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Cook the steak: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the sliced steak in olive oil until browned, about 4–5 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- Sauté peppers and onions: In the same skillet, sauté the bell pepper and onion until soft and lightly caramelized, about 6–8 minutes.
- Assemble: Place the cut bread halves on a baking sheet, brush with melted butter. Layer steak, sautéed peppers, and onions on bread. Sprinkle cheeses on top.
- Bake: Bake for 10–12 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly. Broil for 1–2 minutes for extra crispiness.
- Garnish and serve: Garnish with parsley if desired. Slice and serve.
Notes
- For easy slicing, freeze the steak for 30 minutes before cutting.
- Feel free to use white American cheese or Cheez Whiz for a more traditional Philly style.
