Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Dip is a creamy, cheesy, and savory appetizer inspired by the classic sandwich. Loaded with tender roast beef, caramelized onions, sweet green bell peppers, and a blend of cream cheese, sour cream, mozzarella, and provolone, this warm dip is baked to bubbly perfection. It’s perfect for parties, game days, or casual get-togethers, served with baguette slices, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh veggies for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 1 lb roast beef deli meat (sliced and chopped into ¼ inch pieces)

Vegetables

  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 1 large green bell pepper (chopped)
  • Fresh parsley (finely chopped) for garnish
  • Green onion (sliced) for garnish

Dairy & Dairy Alternatives

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (1 brick, 250 grams, room temperature)
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • 8 slices provolone cheese (chopped into ¼ inch pieces or substitute 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese)

Seasonings

  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat your oven to 375℉. Grease an oven-safe baking dish or skillet lightly with cooking spray and set it aside for later.
  2. Sauté vegetables: Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for 4 to 5 minutes until they become lightly caramelized. Then add the chopped green bell pepper and cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the peppers are tender.
  3. Mix dairy base: Meanwhile, in a medium-sized bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded mozzarella, and chopped provolone cheese. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and evenly blended.
  4. Add meat and vegetables: To the cheese mixture, add the chopped roast beef deli meat, salt, black pepper, and the sautéed onions and bell peppers. Stir everything thoroughly to evenly incorporate all ingredients. Optional: set aside one tablespoon of the meat and veggies for garnish.
  5. Assemble the dip: Spread the dip mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish or oven-safe skillet. Optionally, sprinkle the reserved meat and cooked vegetables over the top for garnish.
  6. Bake the dip: Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes, until the dip is hot and bubbly. Then remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 2 to 3 minutes to allow the top to slightly brown.
  7. Garnish and serve: Remove the dip from the oven and garnish with freshly chopped parsley and sliced green onions. Serve immediately with sliced baguette, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables for dipping. Enjoy your Philly Cheesesteak Dip!

Notes

  • Use roast beef deli meat that is sliced thinly before chopping for best texture.
  • If you prefer, substitute provolone cheese with mozzarella or Swiss cheese for a different flavor profile.
  • Allow the cream cheese to come to room temperature for easier mixing.
  • This dip can be prepared ahead and baked just before serving.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven until warmed through.
