Ingredients
Scale
Mushrooms
- 1 lb mushroom caps
Filling
- ½ lb Italian sausage
- ¼ cup pepperoni, chopped
- 6 Tbsp pizza sauce
- ¼ tsp dried basil
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ¾ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 Tbsp grated parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400ºF (200ºC) to prepare for baking the stuffed mushrooms.
- Prepare the mushrooms: Gently clean the mushroom caps with a damp paper towel to remove any dirt. Remove the stems and set them aside for another use or discard.
- Cook the sausage: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the Italian sausage until it is no longer pink, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess grease from the pan.
- Mix the filling: In a large bowl, combine the cooked sausage, chopped pepperoni, pizza sauce, dried basil, garlic powder, shredded mozzarella cheese, and grated parmesan cheese. Mix well to evenly distribute all ingredients.
- Stuff the mushrooms: Fill each mushroom cap generously with the sausage and cheese mixture, pressing it slightly to hold the filling.
- Bake the mushrooms: Place the stuffed mushrooms on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the filling is heated through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Notes
- You can substitute turkey sausage for a leaner option.
- For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes to the filling mixture.
- Make sure not to overcrowd the baking sheet to ensure even cooking.
- These stuffed mushrooms can be prepared ahead and refrigerated before baking.
