Ingredients
Scale
Puff Pastry Base
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
Egg Mixture
- 4 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme or parsley (optional)
Vegetable Filling
- 1/4 cup diced bell peppers
- 1/4 cup chopped spinach
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
Additional Toppings
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup crumbled cooked bacon or sausage
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare it for baking the tart.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and transfer it to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Use a fork to prick the pastry all over, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges to help it puff evenly.
- Sauté Vegetables: In a skillet, heat the olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, bell peppers, and spinach, cooking until softened, approximately 3-4 minutes. Set aside once softened.
- Mix Egg Mixture: In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and optional fresh herbs such as thyme or parsley until well combined.
- Assemble the Tart: Evenly spread the sautéed vegetables inside the border of the puff pastry. Sprinkle the cooked bacon or sausage over the vegetables, followed by the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Add Egg Mixture: Carefully pour the egg mixture over the filling, ensuring it stays within the pastry border to avoid spilling during baking.
- Bake: Place the tart in the preheated oven and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the eggs are fully set, and the pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the tart to cool slightly before slicing and serving warm for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon or sausage and add additional vegetables such as mushrooms or tomatoes.
- Swap cheddar cheese for feta or goat cheese to add a tangier flavor.
- Use pre-cooked bacon or sausage to save preparation time.
- This tart can be prepared ahead of time and reheated for convenience.
