Coated with a blend of paprika, Cajun seasoning, and aromatic spices, these shrimp are pan-seared to perfection, making a flavorful and speedy meal. Serve them with a zesty remoulade sauce for an extra kick or enjoy them as is for a delicious appetizer or main dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp and Seasonings

  • 1 pound raw shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

Cooking Fat

  • 12 tablespoons olive oil

Optional Sauce

  • Remoulade sauce: mayonnaise, whole grain mustard, capers, horseradish (quantities as preferred)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the seasoning mixture. In a mixing bowl, combine the minced garlic, paprika, Cajun seasoning, salt, cayenne pepper, cumin, thyme, black pepper, and onion powder to create a robust spice blend. Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the bowl and toss thoroughly until each shrimp is evenly coated with the seasoning mixture.
  2. Heat the skillet and cook shrimp. Place a skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 to 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Once the oil is hot and shimmering, arrange the seasoned shrimp in a single layer in the skillet, ensuring they have enough room to cook properly. Sear the shrimp for about 2 to 3 minutes on each side, turning carefully, until they turn pink, develop a slightly charred crust, and are cooked through.
  3. Serve promptly. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and serve immediately. For added flavor, offer a side of remoulade sauce made from mayonnaise, whole grain mustard, capers, and horseradish as a dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the skillet to ensure the shrimp sear properly and develop a nice crust.
  • Adjust cayenne pepper quantity according to desired spice level.
  • Remoulade sauce can be made in advance and refrigerated.
  • Shrimp cook quickly; avoid overcooking to keep them tender and juicy.
  • Serve with rice, salad, or crusty bread for a complete meal.
