Description

These Red Velvet Brownies combine the rich, moist texture of traditional brownies with the vibrant color and subtle tang of red velvet cake. Swirled with a creamy white chocolate and cream cheese topping, they are perfect for a decadent dessert or special occasion treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Batter

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)

Cream Cheese Swirl

  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides to easily lift the brownies out after baking.
  2. Prepare the Brownie Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and 1 cup granulated sugar until well combined. Add the egg, red food coloring, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Whisk until the mixture is smooth. Sift in the cocoa powder, salt, and flour. Gently stir until just combined. Fold in the white chocolate chips if using.
  3. Prepare the Cream Cheese Swirl: In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with 1/4 cup granulated sugar, egg yolk, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  4. Assemble the Brownies: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly. Dollop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture on top of the batter. Use a knife or toothpick to swirl the cream cheese into the brownie batter, creating a marbled effect.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with only a few moist crumbs.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the baking dish. Once cooled, lift the brownies out using the parchment paper overhang. Cut into 12 squares and serve.

Notes

  • For a more intense red velvet flavor, you can add 1/2 teaspoon of white vinegar.
  • Make sure not to overmix the brownie batter to keep the brownies tender.
  • Use full-fat cream cheese for the best texture in the swirl.
  • These brownies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerated for up to a week.
  • Optionally, white chocolate chips enhance the sweetness and texture but can be omitted for a less sweet version.
