  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/3 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (for gravy)
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Prepare the patties: In a bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, egg, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Shape into 4 oval patties.
  2. Cook the patties: Brown the patties in a skillet with olive oil and butter. Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the gravy: Whisk in flour in the skillet, then slowly add beef broth. Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and garlic powder. Simmer until thickened.
  4. Simmer: Return patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer until cooked through.
  5. Serve: Serve hot with mashed potatoes or egg noodles.
