For the Sauce:
- 4 slices deli ham
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- Optional: chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Chicken: Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness and season with salt and pepper.
- Cook the Chicken: Heat olive oil in a skillet, sear the chicken until golden brown and cooked through, then set aside.
- Make the Sauce: Melt butter in the same skillet, whisk in flour, then gradually add chicken broth and cream. Stir in mustard and garlic powder, simmer until slightly thickened.
- Finish the Dish: Return chicken to the skillet, top with ham and Swiss cheese. Cover and cook until cheese melts. Serve with sauce spooned over the top, garnish with parsley if desired.
Notes
- For a low-carb version, use heavy cream and skip the flour or substitute with almond flour.
- You can also bake the entire dish in a 375°F oven for 10 minutes for a bubbly, browned finish.
