For the Meat Sauce:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For the Noodle Mixture:
- 8 ounces egg noodles, cooked and drained
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup small curd cottage cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)
For Layering:
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook Meat Sauce: In a skillet, cook ground beef and onion until browned. Add garlic, tomato sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Prepare Noodle Mixture: In a bowl, combine cooked noodles with sour cream, cottage cheese, and green onions.
- Layer the Casserole: Spread half of the noodle mixture in the baking dish. Top with half of the meat sauce and cheddar cheese. Repeat layers.
- Bake: Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes until bubbly. Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute ricotta for cottage cheese if preferred.
- Add a pinch of crushed red pepper to the meat sauce for a spicy kick.
