Description

Enjoy a taste of the South with this classic Southern Sweet Tea recipe. Refreshing and sweet, this iconic beverage is perfect for sipping on a hot day.


Ingredients

Tea:

  • 8 cups water, divided
  • 3 family-size black tea bags

Sweetener:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda (optional, reduces bitterness)

Garnish:

  • ice
  • lemon wedges or fresh mint for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Boil Water: In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
  2. Remove from heat and add tea bags. Cover and steep for 5–7 minutes. Remove and discard tea bags.

  3. Add Sweetener: Stir in sugar and baking soda (if using) until fully dissolved.
  4. Prepare Tea: Pour tea concentrate into a large pitcher. Add remaining 4 cups cold water and stir.
  5. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate until chilled. Serve over plenty of ice, garnished with lemon wedges or mint if desired.

Notes

  • For stronger tea, steep an extra tea bag.
  • Adjust sugar to taste for more or less sweetness.
