Ingredients
Scale
For the Beef:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp sriracha (adjust to taste)
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tsp rice vinegar
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
For Serving:
- 2 cups cooked jasmine or white rice
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- 1 cup cucumber, sliced or julienned
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 6–8 minutes.
- Drain excess grease if needed, then add garlic and ginger. Cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sriracha, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes (if using). Simmer for 3–4 minutes to meld flavors and slightly thicken the sauce.
- Divide cooked rice between 4 bowls. Top each with the spicy sesame beef, shredded carrots, cucumber, and green onions.
- Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve hot.
Notes
- You can swap beef for ground turkey or plant-based crumbles.
- Add a fried or soft-boiled egg on top for extra richness.
- Great for meal prep—store components separately and assemble before serving.
