Ingredients
Scale
For the shrimp:
- 1 lb large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the avocado crema:
- 1 ripe avocado
- 1/4 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
- Juice of 1 lime
- 1 small garlic clove
- 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
- Salt to taste
To assemble:
- 8 small corn or flour tortillas
- 1 cup shredded cabbage or slaw mix
- 1/4 cup diced red onion
- Chopped cilantro and lime wedges for garnish
Instructions
- Marinate the shrimp: In a bowl, toss the shrimp with olive oil, chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, garlic powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper. Allow to marinate for 10–15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Prepare the avocado crema: Combine the ripe avocado, sour cream or Greek yogurt, lime juice, garlic, chopped cilantro, and salt in a food processor or blender. Blend until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, then set aside.
- Cook the shrimp: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated shrimp and cook for 2–3 minutes per side until they turn pink and are cooked through. Avoid overcrowding the pan for even cooking.
- Warm the tortillas: Heat tortillas in a dry skillet for a few seconds on each side or microwave wrapped in a damp cloth until warm and pliable.
- Assemble the tacos: Layer each tortilla with shredded cabbage or slaw mix, cooked shrimp, and a generous drizzle of avocado crema. Top with diced red onion, chopped cilantro, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice. Serve immediately.
Notes
- You can substitute shrimp with grilled fish, tofu, or chicken for variation.
- Add pickled onions or hot sauce for an extra burst of flavor.
- The avocado crema doubles as a tasty dip or salad dressing.
