Description

Enjoy a vibrant and flavorful meal with these Spicy Shrimp Tacos topped with a creamy avocado crema. Perfectly seasoned shrimp cooked on the stovetop are paired with a fresh, tangy sauce and crunchy slaw, all wrapped in warm tortillas for an easy and delicious Mexican-inspired dish.

Ingredients

Scale

For the shrimp:

  • 1 lb large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the avocado crema:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1/4 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1 small garlic clove
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
  • Salt to taste

To assemble:

  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage or slaw mix
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • Chopped cilantro and lime wedges for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the shrimp: In a bowl, toss the shrimp with olive oil, chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, garlic powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper. Allow to marinate for 10–15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  2. Prepare the avocado crema: Combine the ripe avocado, sour cream or Greek yogurt, lime juice, garlic, chopped cilantro, and salt in a food processor or blender. Blend until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, then set aside.
  3. Cook the shrimp: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated shrimp and cook for 2–3 minutes per side until they turn pink and are cooked through. Avoid overcrowding the pan for even cooking.
  4. Warm the tortillas: Heat tortillas in a dry skillet for a few seconds on each side or microwave wrapped in a damp cloth until warm and pliable.
  5. Assemble the tacos: Layer each tortilla with shredded cabbage or slaw mix, cooked shrimp, and a generous drizzle of avocado crema. Top with diced red onion, chopped cilantro, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can substitute shrimp with grilled fish, tofu, or chicken for variation.
  • Add pickled onions or hot sauce for an extra burst of flavor.
  • The avocado crema doubles as a tasty dip or salad dressing.
