Ingredients
Scale
Sloppy Joe Mixture
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
- 1/2 small onion, diced
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Nachos Assembly
- 8 oz tortilla chips
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese
- 1/4 cup sliced green onions (for garnish)
- Pickled jalapeños (optional topping)
- Sour cream (optional topping)
- Chopped tomatoes (optional topping)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for melting the cheese over the nachos.
- Sauté Onions: In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil and add the diced onions. Cook for 2–3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
- Brown Meat: Add the ground beef or turkey to the skillet with the onions. Cook thoroughly until browned, breaking the meat up into small pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Make Sloppy Joe Sauce: Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens and becomes saucy.
- Assemble Nachos: Spread the tortilla chips evenly on a large baking sheet or an oven-safe platter. Spoon the prepared sloppy joe mixture evenly over the chips, then sprinkle the shredded cheese on top.
- Bake: Place the assembled nachos in the preheated oven and bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and is bubbly.
- Garnish & Serve: Remove the nachos from the oven and top with sliced green onions, pickled jalapeños, sour cream, and chopped tomatoes as desired. Serve immediately for best enjoyment.
Notes
- Try using sweet potato chips or waffle fries instead of tortilla chips for a unique crunch and flavor.
- Line your baking sheet with foil for easy cleanup after baking.
- For a lighter option, use ground turkey instead of ground beef.
- Adjust spice levels by adding more or fewer jalapeños according to taste.
