Description

Sweet Spicy Hot Honey Garlic Pizza features a perfectly crisp cast-iron skillet baked crust topped with a luscious blend of melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, infused with a bold hot honey garlic sauce that combines honey, hot sauce, and red pepper flakes, finished with fresh parsley for a vibrant and flavorful twist on classic pizza.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough and Base

  • 1 pound pizza dough, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced and divided

Cheese Toppings

  • 2 cups shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese
  • 0.25 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Hot Honey Garlic Sauce

  • 0.25 cup honey
  • 2 teaspoons hot sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 0.25 teaspoon kosher salt

Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Lightly oil a 12-inch cast-iron skillet or round pizza pan with the olive oil, making sure to coat the bottom and sides. This will help the crust crisp beautifully as it bakes.
  2. Shape the Dough: Place the pizza dough in the center of the pan and gently press it outward with your fingertips until it reaches the edges evenly. If the dough springs back, let it rest for 5–10 minutes and then continue stretching it out.
  3. Brush with Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter with 2 minced garlic cloves. Evenly brush this flavorful garlic butter over the entire surface of the dough, right up to the crust edges.
  4. Add Cheese Layers: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the dough, then add the grated Parmesan cheese on top, covering close to the edges to ensure a full cheesy crust.
  5. Mix Hot Honey Garlic Sauce: In another small bowl, whisk together the honey, hot sauce, crushed red pepper flakes, apple cider vinegar, the remaining minced garlic clove, and kosher salt until smooth and well combined.
  6. Drizzle Sauce on Cheese: Drizzle about half of the hot honey garlic sauce over the cheese, distributing it to create small pools rather than one solid layer for bursts of flavor.
  7. Bake the Pizza: Place the skillet in a preheated oven at 475°F (245°C) and bake for 13–15 minutes. Bake until the crust is deeply golden, the cheese is bubbling and melted, and the edges are crisp.
  8. Final Sauce Drizzle: Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately drizzle the remaining half of the hot honey garlic sauce evenly over the top to infuse it with heat and sweetness.
  9. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the freshly chopped parsley over the pizza. Let it rest for about 5 minutes to set before slicing into 8 pieces and serving warm.

Notes

  • Allowing the dough to rest if it springs back helps achieve a perfect shape and prevents shrinking during baking.
  • Using a cast-iron skillet ensures a crispy crust and even heat distribution.
  • Adjust the amount of hot sauce and red pepper flakes to control the spice level of the hot honey garlic sauce.
  • Resting the pizza before slicing allows the cheese to set slightly for cleaner slices.
  • Fresh parsley adds a pop of color and freshness that balances the sweet and spicy flavors.
