Description

These Thai Basil Beef Lettuce Wraps are a flavorful and satisfying meal that’s perfect for a quick and easy dinner. Savory ground beef cooked with aromatic herbs and sauces, wrapped in crisp lettuce leaves, makes for a delicious and healthy dish.

Ingredients

Scale

    For the beef:

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small shallot, finely chopped
  • 1 red chili or Thai bird chili, sliced (optional for heat)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves
  • For serving:

  • 1 head butter lettuce or Bibb lettuce, leaves separated and washed
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • Lime wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned and fully cooked, about 6–8 minutes. Drain excess grease if needed.
  2. Add the garlic, shallot, and chili, and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant. Stir in the soy sauce, fish sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, and black pepper. Cook for another 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the beef.
  3. Turn off the heat and stir in the Thai basil leaves until just wilted. Spoon the beef mixture into lettuce leaves and top with shredded carrots and green onions. Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side.

Notes

  • For a lower-sodium version, use low-sodium soy sauce and reduce the fish sauce slightly.
  • Ground chicken or turkey can be substituted for beef.
  • Add cooked rice or rice noodles to make it more filling.
