Ingredients
Chicken Mixture
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1/3 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 cup shredded carrots
- 1/2 cup finely chopped red bell pepper
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Wraps
- 1 head butter lettuce or romaine leaves, separated
Instructions
- Heat aromatics: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.
- Cook chicken: Add the ground chicken to the skillet. Break it up with a spoon and cook until fully cooked and no longer pink, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking.
- Add sauces and seasoning: Stir in the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, lime juice, brown sugar, and crushed red pepper flakes if using. Continue cooking for 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the chicken mixture well.
- Add vegetables: Stir in the shredded carrots and finely chopped red bell pepper. Cook for another 1 to 2 minutes until the vegetables are just tender but still retain some crunch.
- Finish with fresh herbs: Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the chopped green onions and fresh cilantro to add a fresh burst of flavor.
- Serve: Spoon the warm chicken mixture into individual lettuce leaves and serve immediately for a delicious and healthy meal.
Notes
- For extra crunch, add chopped peanuts or water chestnuts to the filling.
- You can substitute ground turkey for the chicken if preferred.
- Use low-sodium soy sauce to reduce the sodium content.
