Description

Indulge in the creamy, sweet perfection of this Best Banana Pudding Cake. Layers of moist yellow cake, luscious banana pudding, fresh whipped cream, and crunchy vanilla wafers come together for a delightful dessert that will have everyone asking for seconds.

Ingredients

Scale

For the cake:

  • 1 box yellow cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the filling:

  • 1 (3.4-ounce) box instant banana pudding mix
  • 1 1/2 cups cold milk
  • 1/2 cup sour cream

For the topping:

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1–2 bananas (sliced)
  • 1/2 cup crushed vanilla wafers (plus extra for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Prepare the yellow cake mix according to package instructions, adding vanilla extract to the batter. Bake in two greased 9-inch round cake pans. Let cool completely.
  2. Prepare the filling: Whisk together banana pudding mix and cold milk in a bowl for 2 minutes until thickened. Stir in sour cream until smooth and creamy. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  3. Make the whipped topping: In a separate bowl, beat heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form to make whipped topping.
  4. Assemble the cake: Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a thick layer of banana pudding over the top, then sprinkle with crushed vanilla wafers and sliced bananas. Top with the second cake layer.
  5. Frost and chill: Frost the top of the cake with whipped cream and decorate with more banana slices and crushed wafers. Chill for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add sliced bananas between the layers just before serving to prevent browning.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
