For the cookie layer:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare pan: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly grease.
  2. Make brownie layer: Whisk melted butter and sugar, add eggs and vanilla. Sift in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder; stir and spread in pan.
  3. Prepare cookie layer: Beat softened butter with sugars, add egg and vanilla. Gradually mix in flour, baking soda, and salt. Fold in chocolate chips. Spoon over brownie layer.
