  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 vanilla bean, split and seeds scraped
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, and granulated sugar.
  2. Add the split vanilla bean and scraped seeds to the mixture. Place over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is steaming but not boiling.

  3. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and pinch of salt.
  4. Let the mixture steep for 30 minutes to infuse the vanilla flavor. Remove the vanilla bean pod and pour the mixture into an airtight container.

  5. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight until very cold.
  6. Once chilled, pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions, about 20-25 minutes, until thick and creamy.
  7. Transfer the ice cream to a freezer-safe container and freeze for at least 2 hours to firm up before serving.
