Description

This refreshing Watermelon Slushie is a perfect summer treat combining frozen watermelon cubes with lime juice, maple syrup, fresh mint or basil, and water to create a naturally sweet and hydrating beverage. Blended to a thick slushie consistency, it’s quick to prepare and ideal for cooling down on a hot day.

Ingredients

Scale

Slushie Ingredients

  • 10 cups Seedless Watermelon Cubes, frozen for at least 24 hours
  • 2–4 tbsp Maple Syrup
  • Juice of 1 large Lime
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Mint or Basil leaves, loosely packed (Optional, but recommended)
  • 1 1/2 cup Filtered Water

Instructions

  1. Defrost the Watermelon: Let the frozen watermelon chunks sit at room temperature for 5-10 minutes to soften slightly, making them easier to blend.
  2. Combine Ingredients in Blender: Add the partially defrosted watermelon, 2 tablespoons of maple syrup, lime juice, fresh mint or basil leaves, and filtered water into a high-speed blender.
  3. Blend to Slushie Consistency: Pulse the blender first to break up the watermelon, then blend continuously until the mixture achieves a thick, slushie texture.
  4. Adjust Sweetness: Taste the slushie and add more maple syrup if desired, blending again briefly to incorporate.
  5. Adjust Thickness: If the slushie is too thick, add additional water a little at a time and blend until your preferred consistency is reached.
  6. Serve: Pour the slushie evenly into 4 glasses, garnish if desired, and enjoy immediately for the best refreshing experience.

Notes

  • Use seedless watermelon to avoid any seeds in the slushie.
  • Freezing the watermelon for at least 24 hours yields the best icy texture.
  • Fresh mint or basil adds a lovely herbal note but can be omitted if preferred.
  • Maple syrup provides natural sweetness, but you can adjust the amount to suit your taste or substitute with honey or agave syrup.
  • If you don’t have a high-speed blender, blend in smaller batches or use crushed ice to help achieve the slushie texture.
  • Consume immediately for optimal texture; if left to sit, the slushie may become watery.
